The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) responded to a report involving three alleged victims of trafficking in persons (TIP) onboard a commercial passenger vessel from Zamboanga del Sur en route to Tawi-Tawi at around 06:15 a.m. on Sunday, 25 September 2022.
The PCG duty sea marshals coordinated with the vessel captain and conducted the verification and profiling of reported passengers. They identified the alleged TIP victims as one 44-year-old female, one 37-year-old male, and one nine-year-old male.
According to the alleged TIP victims, unknown individuals instructed them to travel via a 'backdoor' channel, and an unidentified person will fetch them upon arrival.
The PCG duty sea marshals and Municipal Interagency Committee Against Trafficking (MIACAT) personnel turned them over to the Philippine National Police (PNP) Station Tawi-Tawi for proper investigation, stress debriefing, and further disposition.
