The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) responded to a drowning incident at the vicinity waters off Araneta Avenue, Amoranto, Barangay Talayan, Quezon City, yesterday, 07 January 2023.

On 06 January 2023, the PCG Station Manila launched a search and rescue (SAR) operations after receiving a call regarding an alleged drowning incident at the said vicinity waters.

During the investigation, 12-year-old Edgardo Abraham Reyes and 11-year-old Lemuel Evangelista were taking a bath and playing with styrofoams as floaters at the Araneta Creek.

Subsequently, they lost their balance and were carried away by the current.

The PCG SAR team was able to retrieve the lifeless body of Evangelista, as confirmed by his bereaved family.

The Coast Guard rescuers advised the Quezon City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office and Barangay Talayan personnel to coordinate with other barangays near the area for possible sightings of the other victim and report to the PCG for immediate assistance.
