The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) congratulates the next World Maritime University (WMU) President, Professor Max Mejia!

Following a competitive selection process, Professor Mejia was selected to succeed Dr. Cleopatra Doumbia-Henry.

Professor Mejia is currently Director of the PhD Program and Associate Academic Dean at WMU in Malmö, Sweden.

Before joining the WMU in 1998, Prof. Mejia was a COMMISSIONED OFFICER in the Philippine Navy and the PCG.

He served as Assistant Chief of Staff for Navigational Safety, CG-10; Station Commander of Coast Guard Station Iligan; and Commanding Officer of Port State Control Manila.

During a sabbatical from WMU between 2013 and 2016, Professor Mejia became the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) Administrator.

Professor Mejia will take over the WMU President's role on 29 June 2023.
