The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Station Occidental Mindoro responded to a maritime incident involving a cargo vessel, MV MANFEL V, which ran aground in the vicinity waters north off Lubang, Occidental Mindoro at around 7PM yesterday, 26 February 2023.

 

MV MANFEL V departed from Subic, Zambales, going to Bauan, Batangas, when it encountered engine trouble at around 9AM yesterday while traversing the vicinity waters off Fortune Island.

 

The distressed cargo vessel drifted towards Lubang and ran aground when it reached the vicinity waters approximately 110 meters from the shoreline of Barangay Maligaya.

 

Based on the investigation, MV Manfel V is a general cargo vessel with 498.72 gross tonnages skippered by Captain Radie Brillante and operated by Manfel Cargo Shipping based in Taguig City.

 

The 14 crew members onboard were rescued and brought to the MDRRMO to check their health and conduct antigen tests.

 

MDRRMO confirmed that the rescued individuals were in good physical condition.

 

After their health check-up, the crew members were brought to the Coast Sub-Station Luban for further inquiry regarding the maritime incident.

 

Today, 27 February 2023, the Coast Guard Station Occidental Mindoro continuously monitors the distressed cargo vessel to check for any signs of oil spillage and assess possible damages to the marine environment.

 

The PCG also advised Captain Brillante to file a marine protest within 24 hours.
