The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) District Central Visayas has responded to an allision involving LCT JANA JULIANA and MTUG NAGASAKA in the vicinity waters 200 yards south off Colorado Shipyard in Cebu on 10 March 2023.

MTUG NAGASAKA was towing LCT JANA JULIANA when the LCT's port bow allided with the MTUG, causing the MTUG NAGASAKA to sink.

The PCG deployed BRP Cape San Agustin (MRRV-4408) and Special Operations Group (SOG)-Central Visayas divers to conduct underwater search and rescue (SAR) operations for one crew member of MTUG NAGASAKA who was reported to be the first one to jump overboard.

The PCG's Marine Environmental Protection Unit-Central Visayas assessed the vicinity waters for a possible oil spill as MTUG NAGASAKA carried approximately 60 liters of diesel oil. They laid one segment of oil spill boom after observing minimal oil sheens.

The PCG also started a marine casualty investigation regarding the incident.

At around 1PM yesterday, 11 March 2023, local fishermen of Barangay Ibo, Lapu-Lapu City found a floating cadaver that was confirmed by the bereaved family to be the missing crew of MTUG NAGASAKA.

As of press time, the PCG continues to monitor the vicinity waters.
