President Ferdinand Bongbong Marcos Jr commended the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and concerned government agencies for their collective efforts in the Oriental Mindoro oil spill response.

This occurred during his visit to Pola on 15 April 2023.

President Marcos joined the aerial surveillance to check the status of the affected municipalities and the operational area where the PCG and Malayan Towage and Salvage Corp. conduct offshore containment and recovery efforts.

Afterward, he presided over the situation briefing to discuss developments on the current situation, response updates, humanitarian programs, and other concerns.

During the briefing, Incident Management Team (IMT) in Oriental Mindoro Commander, CG Commodore Geronimo Tuvilla, summarized the IMT's response operations since 28 February 2023.

He shared that the offshore response teams collected over 20,000 liters of oily-water mixture, while the shoreline response teams gathered approximately 134,000 kilos of oil-contaminated debris at 12 affected barangays in Naujan, Calapan, and Pola.

CG Commodore Tuvilla also communicated that around 10,000 square meters of mangrove forest in Pola were affected by the oil spill: 8,900 square meters at Barangay Batuhan, 500 square meters at Barangay Misong, and 200 square meters at Barangay Calima.

Furthermore, the PCG's clean-up operations have reached 77.91% acceptably cleaned shoreline β€” covering 31.64 kilometers out of the 40.61 kilometers of total oil-spill affected shoreline.

After the briefing, the Chief Executive led the government assistance distribution to the affected families.

In his speech, President Marcos assured Pola residents that concerned agencies, private stakeholders, and foreign counterparts implement the most efficient and effective response strategies to address the oil spill as soon as possible.

PCG Commandant, CG Admiral Artemio M Abu; and Crisis Management Committee officials: CG Vice Admiral Rolando Lizor Punzalan Jr, CG Vice Admiral Robert Patrimonio; and Coast Guard District Southern Tagalog Commander, CG Commodore Inocencio Rosario Jr, also joined the operations.
