The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Sub-Station Dapa assisted in rescuing 38 passengers of M/V Riena Xaviera that ran aground in the vicinity waters off Dapa, Siargao Island in Surigao Del Norte, yesterday, 27 May 2023.

Captain Prospero Nillo said they encountered an engine malfunction while approaching the Port of Dapa. Due to the strong winds, it drifted and eventually ran aground.

All passengers were in good physical condition when they arrived at the port.

Meanwhile, Coast Guard personnel continue to monitor the distressed vessel.
