The Incident Management Team-Oriental Mindoro (IMT-Ormin) reports the following updates regarding DSV Fire Opal's ongoing siphoning of remaining oil onboard the sunken MT Princess Empress in the vicinity waters off Naujan, Oriental Mindoro, as of yesterday, 01 June 2023:
The Malayan Towage and Salvage Corp. (MTSC) started to open the Cargo Oil Tanks (COTs) of MT Princess Empress utilizing the ROVs and the deployed "catchcan" to collect oil.
OIL RECOVERED:
COT Number 1 Starboard: approximately 50 liters
COT Number 1 Port: approximately 75 liters
COT Number 2 Starboard: to be determined
COT Number 2 Port: to be determined
COT Number 1 port and starboard hatch covers are open, but no oil is coming out. However, said tanks are in continuous monitoring.
COT Number 2 (port & starboard) is observed to have a few amounts of oil.
Thus, the MTSC temporarily closed the said cargo oil tank to continue checking the other two tanks, COTs Number 3 (port & starboard) and 4 (port & starboard), for assessment.
