Nearly 2,000 Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary (PCGA) officers gather for the 38th National Convention (NACON) in Nasugbu, Batangas, from 15 to 17 June 2023.
PCGA National Director, Auxiliary Vice Admiral Manuel Luis Idquival, declared the 38th PCGA NACON's opening with the theme "PCGA @51st: Promoting the Culture of Friendship and Respect Towards a Cohesive and Progressive Maritime Nation."
In his opening message, Auxiliary Vice Admiral Inquival said this year's NACON has the biggest PCGA delegation.
As a member of the PCGA Executive Squadron with the rank of "Auxiliary Vice Admiral," Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Jaime Bautista graced the event as his first PCGA NACON since his formal induction in November 2022.
He stressed the importance of strong collaboration between agencies to build a progressive maritime nation and a cohesive transportation system.
"As we strive to build a progressive maritime nation, it is critical that we cultivate a culture of respect and friendship. Through the years, the PCGA has been a valuable partner of the Coast Guard in its numerous undertakings," DOTr Secretary Bautista said.
"This is a solid manifestation of your commitment to serve others for the common good. This is the essence of the spirit of volunteerism that unites us at PCGA. We are mandated to provide significant contributions, " he furthered.
Also supporting the event was Nasugbu Mayor Antonio Jose Barcelon, who welcomed the PCG-PCGA delegation in the municipality and recognized their efforts and sacrifices in protecting the country's vast coastlines and conserving its rich marine environment.
Auxiliary Rear Admiral Jorge Lim will be appointed the next PCGA National Director, succeeding Auxiliary Vice Admiral Idquival.
Ending his fruitful term, Auxiliary Vice Admiral Idquival challenged his fellow PCGA members to put into action their oath and continuously ignite the fire of volunteerism they had when they took oath as members of the PCG's civilian volunteer arm.
The Coast Guard District Southern Tagalog, led by CG Commodore Geronimo Tuvilla, and Coast Guard Auxiliary District Southern Tagalog, headed by Auxiliary Commodore Mark Llandro Mendoza, also assisted in hosting the annual event.
