The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) assisted the Bureau of Customs (BOC) in seizing 42 bales of "ukay-ukay" with an estimated market value of Php 500,000 on different operations while conducting paneling of vehicles in Matnog, Sorsogon.
On 08 July 2023, the joint law enforcement team intercepted 25 bales of "ukay-ukay" bound for Samar and Leyte.
On 10 July 2023, the PCG Station Sorsogon turned over 17 bales of "ukay-ukay" to BOC-Legazpi.
Nine were seized on 08 July 2023 en route to Davao Oriental, while the remaining eight bales were intercepted on various dates in June and July 2023.
During the inspection, the owners failed to present legal documents pertaining to their cargo.
The BOC said they would issue a warrant of seizure and detention against the confiscated goods for violation of Republic Act No. 10863 or the "Customs Modernization and Tariff Act."
