The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) conducted a medical evacuation for the master of a Chinese-flagged bulk carrier, MV GUO HAI LIAN 98, in the vicinity waters off La Union yesterday, 23 July 2023.

According to the crew, the Chinese national master experienced symptoms of myocardial infarction.

The Coast Guard Station La Union coordinated with the Bureau of Quarantine (BOQ) and the vessel's local agent for immediate medical assistance.

Upon arrival, the medical evacuation team conducted cardiopulmonary resuscitation and disembarked the patient.

He was brought to the La Union Medical Diagnostic Center and Hospital, Inc. at Barangay Catbangen, San Fernando, but was declared "dead on arrival" by the attending physician.
