The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) responds to a maritime incident involving M/TUG SEDAR 7 that ran aground in the vicinity waters off Palaui Island, Barangay San Vicente, Santa Ana, Cagayan, yesterday, 29 July 2023.

Based on the initial report, the captain tried to maneuver the tugboat to take shelter, but due to high waves and strong currents, the tugboat drifted toward the shallow part of Palaui Island.

The PCG team confirmed that the 11 crew members, including the captain, were safe and in good physical condition.

Meanwhile, the PCG's Marine Environmental Protection (MEP) Force conducted an initial oil spill assessment and yielded a negative result.

The Coast Guard response team will board the vessel to provide further assistance as soon as the weather permits.
