The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) joined the unified celebration of the 28th National Seafarer's Day and conducted the Launching Ceremony of the Onboard Training Monitoring System yesterday, 24 September 2023.
On behalf of CG Admiral Artemio Abu, Commandant PCG, said undertaking was fronted by CG Vice Admiral Rolando Lizor Punzalan Jr, Deputy Commandant for Operations (DCO), together with Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) and Commission on Higher Education (CHED).
In honor of the crucial contributions of Filipino seafarers to the economic prosperity of the nation, a holy mass has been done.
Also, part of the activity is the Launching Ceremony of the Onboard Training Monitoring System which has been pursued for the PCG was entrusted with Monitoring Onboard Training of Cadets Aboard Philippine-Registered Vessels Engaged in Domestic Shipping through the policies collaboratively implemented by the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA), Commission on Higher Education (CHED), and Philippine Coast Guard (PCG).
Certificate of Commendation was given to all the Onboard Training Monitoring System developer of the Coast Guard Information System under Coast Guard Weapons, Communications, Electronics and Information System Command (CGWCEISC).
Along with this, Captain Clein Tolentino and 17 other crew members of MV Ariana was awarded with the Certificate of Commendation for the dedication, valor and exceptional teamwork in safeguarding lives by rescuing a Vietnamese national drifting at the vicinity waters of Con Son Island.
Meanwhile, maritime sector officials and bereaved families boarded MRRV-4406 BRP Suluan and FPB-2401 BRP Boracay for the wreath laying ceremony in remembrance of our seafarers who perished at sea. Maritime stakeholders united through prayers as they honor our fellow Filipinos who were selfless and dedicated in their calling as sailors for their families and the country.
Also, present in the event were CG Vice Admiral Joseph Coyme, Commander, Maritime Safety Services Command (MSSC); CG Commodore Dominador Senador, Commander, Maritime Casualty Investigation Services (MCIS); CG Commodore Lowie Palines, Commander, Ecumenical Chaplain Service; CG Captain Jomark Angue, Deputy Chief of Coast Guard Staff for Maritime Safety Services (CG-8); CG Captain Jaybom Calica, Deputy Commander, MSSC; Aechylus Grekxy Santiago, PPA, Safety Specialist Port Operations Services; and Most Reverent Ruperto Cruz Santos Bishop of Antipolo promoter of Stella- Maris.
