The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has responded to an agrounding incident involving M/V PIO V. CORPUS STAR (Kho Shipping Lines) in the vicinity waters off Mobo, Masbate, on 04 November 2023.
While conducting a docking maneuver at the Mobo Port, the RoRo / passenger vessel encountered strong wind and current, causing it to run aground.
The master said it damaged the vessel's forecastle portion, but they monitored no water ingress in the engine room.
The PCG and MDRRMO inspected the vessel for possible traces of an oil spill and yielded a negative result.
Three divers accredited by the MARINA Regional Office V also performed underwater hull inspection. They only monitored a dent in the hull's paint, which the PCG-MDRRO response team said would not affect its voyage.
At around 10:47PM, the PCG-MDRRMO response team supervised the retrieval operation conducted by MV RICARDO 5 of Kho Shipping Lines during the highest tide.
It safely arrived at the Mobo Port at around 11:30PM.
