The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) is actively engaged in the search for a fisherman who failed to return home as expected after embarking on a fishing venture at the waters of Patnanungan and Polillo Island, Quezon Province, on 14 November 2023.
The missing fisherman was identified as Mr. Willie Miranda, a 50-year-old fisherman from Barangay Poblacion, Patnanungan. Mr. Miranda was aboard an unnamed black and green-painted fishing boat, departing at 5AM. No contact has been established since his departure, and his current whereabouts remain unknown.
The incident was reported to the Philippine Coast Guard by the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (MDRRMO) in Patnanungan. In response, the Coast Guard, in collaboration with MDRRMO, initiated a search and rescue operation.
The search covered the waters of barangays in Poblacion and Norte in Patnanungan, extending to the waters off Barangay Languyin in Bislian, Pamatdan, and Barangay Agta in Polillo.
Despite nearly four hours of thorough searching, no distress motorbanca was sighted. The operation was temporarily terminated due to adverse weather and sea conditions, with the team returning to Patnanungan Port without positive results.
Additionally, Coast Guard Sub-Stations (CGSS) in Polillo, Burdeos, Infanta, and Real conducted shore patrol operations in their respective areas. They disseminated information about the missing fisherman and advised local fisherfolks and coastal residents to remain vigilant. Any sightings of Mr. Miranda were urged to be reported immediately to authorities.
The Philippine Coast Guard remains committed to the ongoing search and rescue efforts, closely monitoring developments in the hopes of locating Mr. Willie Miranda.
