The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has intensified its patrol operations to fight maritime crimes, including but not limited to sea piracy, theft, and robbery at sea.

This occurred following the robbery at sea in the vicinity waters off Manila International Container Terminal (MICT), Manila Bay Anchorage Area, on 26 November 2023. Based on the investigation, safety gears and other essential vessel equipment were stolen on board MV G CROWN and MV HANSA COLOMBO.

As per the directive of Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Jaime Bautista, PCG Commandant, CG Admiral Ronnie Gil L Gavan, has directed district commanders in 15 PCG districts to reinforce the Coast Guard's presence, especially in major port terminals, harbors, and other waterways nationwide.

"We are expanding our efforts to ensure maritime security and public safety and lessen, if not completely eradicate maritime crimes amid the increasing maritime traffic and sea transport operations this upcoming holiday season," CG Admiral Gavan expressed.

"The PCG's maritime security teams, composed of sea marshals, K9 units, seaborne patrols units, and intelligence operatives, must be in a high state of readiness and respond promptly to any incident that may occur during the holiday season. We assure the public of their services even on holiday breaks," he added.

While more than 30,000 Coast Guardians and the entire DOTr Maritime Sector are working towards achieving "zero maritime crime" during the much-awaited holiday break, the Coast Guard Commandant seeks the general public's cooperation by reporting suspicious activities in ports, harbors, and other waterways for swift and appropriate law enforcement measures.

"We want our kababayans to have a convenient, comfortable, and safe sea travel as they come together to celebrate with their families and loved ones. As such, we need their help in preventing lawless activities in ports, at sea, and other highly populated locations within our area of responsibility," CG Admiral Gavan furthered.
