The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has responded to a maritime incident near Ambulong Island, San Jose, Occidental Mindoro yesterday, 29 November 2023, at 8PM.

MV Chacha 101, a cargo fish carrier en route from San Jose, Occidental Mindoro, to Calandagan, Palawan, encountered engine trouble.

The distressed vessel was immobilized around five nautical miles west of Ambulong Island due to a cooling system failure.

In a prompt and coordinated effort, teams from the Coast Guard in San Jose and Occidental Mindoro, Special Operations Unit, Motor Boat Jhon Q, and Fishing Boat Graziella launched a search and rescue (SAR) operation to assist MV Chacha 101.

The responding team found the distressed vessel about 16 nautical miles southwest of Ambulong Island, and all nine crew (including the captain) were in good physical condition when they arrived at the Port of Caminawit.

The PCG advised the MV Chacha 101's master to file a marine protest within 24 hours and obtain a certificate of seaworthiness from the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) before the resumption of operations.
