Four Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) officers have completed the pilot course conducted by the Global Maritime Crime Program (GMPC) of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and Indonesia Coast Guard (BAKAMLA RI) from 04 to 08 December 2023.

CG Lieutenant Junior Grade Shane Marie Lim, CG Lieutenant Junior Grade Lamuel Panangon, CG Lieutenant Junior Grade Ronnie Hachero, and CG Ensign John Rainiel Romanes together with six other participants from BAKAMLA RI learned the basic features, handling, and maneuvering of the BlueROV2 model.

This was intended to develop understanding and hands-on experience in operating and maneuvering an ROV effectively around commercial vessels.

The participants were able to identify the common attachment areas such as the bilge keel, bow thruster, sea chest, propeller, and rudder.

Moreover, participants were also taught the safety protocols, maintenance, and troubleshooting techniques for ROV deployment, as well as the environmental factors that will influence it.
