The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has rescued six passengers on board a distressed motorbanca in the vicinity waters off Kalangugan, Barangay Rizal, Socorro, Surigao del Norte, yesterday, 14 January 2024.

The distressed motorbanca departed Feeder Port at Barangay Navarro, Socorro, Surigao del Norte, en route to Barangay 12, Catabaan, Dapa, Surigao del Norte.

While underway, they encountered a gust of wind followed by big waves, which damaged the motorbanca's rudder, causing it to lose steering control.

The Coast Guard Station Bucas Grande rescued the six passengers and towed the distressed motorbanca toward Port of Socorro, Surigao del Norte.
