𝐈𝐍𝐂𝐈𝐃𝐄𝐍𝐓 𝐑𝐄𝐏𝐎𝐑𝐓: The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) responds to a maritime incident involving two barges that ran aground in the vicinity waters of Barangay Taboc, Opol, Misamis Oriental at around 3PM on 15 January 2024.

During the investigation, the PCG found that Barge SB 1002 and Barge Waling Waling were dragged in the said vicinity waters due to strong winds and big waves.

Barge SB 1002 and Barge Waling Waling were approximately 10 meters and 250 meters away from the shoreline, respectively.

MTUG Gabay attempted to attach a towing line to the barges, but failed due to low tide and poor visibility.

On 17 January 2024, the Coast Guard conducted underwater hull inspections before the conduct of another towing operation.

The PCG advised the shipping company to secure a special permit to navigate (SPN) to drydock the barges to the nearest shipyard if the second extraction from the grounding site will not be successful.
