Ever since, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has been actively performing its mandates maintaining its significance in today’s modern time. As such, it is high time to consider its modernization considering the issues of the Philippines in West Philippine Sea.

Your PCG is actively coordinating with various Senators and Congressmen, members of PCG Auxiliary Executive Squadron as well as other government agencies seeking their support to this much needed modernization.

Due to close coordination and successful lobbying with Sen. Sherwin Gatchalian, the good Senator filed his version of the bill on 13 December 2023: Senate Bill No. 2516.

The principal thrusts of the modernization program shall be the development of a more mobile and visible Coast Guard force that will establish its vision of a "world-class guardian of the sea" by 2035, the acquisition and upgrading of appropriate technology and equipment and the strategic improvement and construction of bases, installations, and other facilities.

It was proposed that the program be divided into four tiers in line with the capabilities and include the following: First Tier–Development of PCG Response Bases and Enhancement of Maritime Domain Awareness Capabilities; Second Tier–Development of Infrastructure and Interdiction Capabilities; Third Tier–Acquisition and Development of Patrol Vessels and Air Capabilities; and Fourth Tier–Infrastructure and Facilities Development and to be implemented every three years, reflecting the four tiers, over a total period of 12 years.

It shall be noted as well that in the present 19th Congress, Cong. Michael Romero, Cong. Eric Martinez, Cong. Leody Tarriela, Cong. Eduardo Villanueva, Cong. Erwin Tulfo, Sen. Jinggoy Estrada, and Sen. Bong Go expressed their support for the modernization of the PCG.

The PCG conveys utmost gratitude for the support we are receiving on these very important legislative endeavors to further strengthen the PCG’s organization and administration for a stronger, better, more responsive and reliable guardian of the sea.
