The Coast Guard District Southeastern Mindanao (CGDSEM) has recognized several K9 handlers and their working dogs for outstanding service during the recent landslide at Barangay Masara, Maco, Davao de Oro.
Vice President Sara Duterte graced the awarding ceremony to personally congratulate the awardees in Sasa, Davao City, today, 21 February 2024.
According to CGDSEM Commander, CG Commodore Rejard Marfe, the event acknowledged the PCG's exceptional contribution to the search, rescue, and retrieval operations at Barangay Masara.
During the awarding ceremony, the CGDSEM highlighted the extraordinary efforts of Coast Guard Working Dog (CGWD) Appa, CG Petty Officer Second Class (PO2) Alfie Baba, and the Coast Guard Station Davao de Oro in locating a three-year-old child who was trapped for almost three days in the aftermath of the landslide.
The PCG District also recognized K9 handlers and CGWDs from the Coast Guard District Southwestern Mindanao and Coast Guard District BARMM who assisted in the operations:Β

2) CG PO1 Renelio Lorion and CGWD Tiffa
3) CG PO2 An-nur Yusop and CGWD Ivy
CG Commodore Marfe thanked the awardees for their collaborative efforts, which proved the crucial role of canines in search and rescue operations aimed at saving lives.
