The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has accorded a Skipperβs Farewell Cruise Ceremony for Coast Guard K-9 Force Commander, CG Commodore Angel Viliran honoring his remarkable tenure and exemplary service during his assignment aboard ship at Pier 13, Port Area, Manila on 04 March 2024.
He earned the most coveted COMMAND AT SEA BADGE after successfully commanding several PCG and DA-BFAR ships and the rare feat of being awarded the Coveted Efficiency Award or the βShip of the Yearβ for three consecutive years (2015, 2016 and 2017) in three different categories.
In his remarks, CG Commodore Viliran acknowledged his profound gratitude to the Coast Guard Fleet personnel for their kind welcome and meticulous planning, which made the event go smoothly and successfully.
The Skipperβs Farewell Cruise Ceremony featured the participation of his oceanic majesty, King Neptune, who served as the Presiding Officer. He was accompanied by his wife, Queen Amphitrite, the Kingβs Herald, and Davy Jones, who was portrayed by the Coast Guard Fleet officers and the crew of BRP Batangas (SARV-5605). The idea and the characters were inspired by the shellbacks' custom of ceremoniously crossing the Equator.
The ceremony was highlighted by traditional rituals, heartfelt speeches, and the presentation of awards, symbolizing the respect and appreciation of the maritime community for his years of dedication and outstanding contributions to the PCG and the nation.
CG Commodore Viliran will be retiring on 15 March 2024 after more than 30 years of public service.
