Authorities in Calapan responded to a distress call regarding a victim who jumped overboard from Motor Vessel Santa Brigida, a passenger-cargo vessel en route from Batangas Port to Calapan Port which occurred around 10 AM, 26 March 2024.
The Coast Guard Sub Station (CGSS) Calapan, upon receiving the report from the Philippine Ports Authority, swiftly coordinated with the vessel's quartermaster and confirmed the successful rescue of the individual.
After MV Santa Brigida safely docked at Calapan Pier, the Coast Guard Station Calapan, in collaboration with personnel from the Maritime Safety Services Unit, promptly transported the victim, identified as alias Dolly, a 16-year-old resident of Socorro, Oriental Mindoro, to Oriental Mindoro Provincial Hospital.
The City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office ambulance facilitated her immediate medical assistance.
A subsequent inquiry revealed that the victim, alias Dolly, is experiencing family conflicts that led to her actions.
However, following evaluation by the attending physician, she was deemed to be in good health. Consequently, she was released into the care of her relatives.
