The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) recovered the lifeless body of a drowned fisherman in the vicinity waters off Barangay Dawan, Mati City, Davao Oriental amid Black Saturday, 30 March 2024.
The victim went on a fishing venture on a fish cage, together with his wife and daughter.
According to his wife, the fisherman jumped into the water in attempt to retrieve his unsecured boat being swept away by strong current and wind. The victim failed to retrieve his boat and decided to swim back towards the fish cage.
His wife narrated that the fisherman struggled to swim back to the cage due to strong current and wind, leading to his untimely demise.
The Coast Guard Station Davao Oriental turned over the recovered body to his family for proper disposition.
CGS Davao Oriental Station Commander, CG Lieutenant Vincent Bryan Marcos, urges the public to always take precautionary measures and observe maritime safety guidelines at all times.
