Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Commandant, CG Admiral Ronnie Gil Gavan, has affirmed the PCG’s commitment to ensuring maritime safety in Romblon.

This occurred during the blessing and inauguration of High-Speed Response Boat (HSRB) 009 at Barangay Poblacion, San Agustin, Romblon, on 04 April 2024.

During the event, CG Admiral Gavan emphasized the need for the revision of the PCG Law of 2009 to effectively address the evolving Coast Guard requirements, echoing the sentiment of Romblon’s Lone District Representative Eleandro Jesus Madrona that “change is essential to meet the dynamic challenges of maritime safety.”

The Coast Guard Commandant also declared Romblon as the central operational theater of the PCG, underscoring the province's critical role in maritime security.

Hence, CG Admiral Gavan said the PCG will allocate additional HSRBs for deployment to the northern and southern parts of the province to efficiently serve the 22 islands and 17 municipalities of Romblon.

The PCG Commandant concluded his speech by urging maritime stakeholders and concerned government agencies to support President Ferdinand Marcos Jr’s call for genuine change to foster nationwide unity and progress.
