The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has recovered β‚±864,000 worth of abandoned smuggled cigarettes at Sitio White Sand, Barangay Maputi, Banaybanay, Davao Oriental on 13 May 2024.

The Coast Guard Sub-station (CGSS) Banybanay initiated a seaborne patrol after receiving a report from a concerned citizen.

Upon arrival at the location, the team discovered and secured 51 boxes of assorted smuggled cigarettes which were then transported to CGSS Banaybanay Office for inventory.

The said inventory was conducted early morning on 14 May 2024 with the presence of Banaybanay, Mayor Lemuel Ian Larcia, who inspected the smuggled cigarettes, composed of 2,485 reams of various cigarette brands.

Subsequently, the cigarettes were transported and turned over to the Bureau of Customs - Port of Davao (BOC) Davao for proper disposition.

The turn-over process commenced, culminating with the inventory and segregation of the cigarettes by the BOC-Davao personnel. Representative of CGSS Banaybanay received the official acknowledgment receipt, on behalf of the PCG confirming the details of the recovered items.
