The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has conducted a medical evacuation for a Chinese crew who accidentally cut his left thumb while underway the vicinity waters 20.69 nautical miles west of Semirara Port, Caluya, Antique, at around 9AM yesterday, 04 July 2024.

The 35-year-old second engineer of Hongkong-flagged bulk carrier, MV BBG Qinzhou, said he was accidentally cut by a fan blade or metal, resulting in significant pain and requiring hospital treatment.

The foreign vessel departed Nansha, China going to Tanjung Bara, Indonesia, when the incident occurred.

In coordination with the captain and vessel’s agent, the PCG deployed BRP Kalanggaman (FPB-2404) to the rendezvous area at 1.5 nautical miles of Nogas Island, Anini-y, Antique.

The Coast Guard vessel safely evacuated the patient at around 6PM.

Four PCG medical personnel provided medical assistance while underway to Muelle Loney Wharf in Iloilo City.

Upon arrival at 8:30PM, the PCG turned over the patient to the vessel's agent who handled his transportation to the nearest hospital for medical attention.
