The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) conducted a three-day National Search and Rescue Seminar/Workshop at Nasugbu, Batangas from 07 to 09 August 2024.

Deputy Commandant for Administration, CG Vice Admiral Allan Victor Dela Vega emphasized that β€œSearch and Rescue is a very important function of the Coast Guard─ the inherent function of Coast Guard all over the world, that is why most Coast Guard mottos are always related to Search and Rescue”.

Further, CG Vice Admiral Dela Vega underscored that β€œAs the primary maritime search and rescue agency, we are being depended on not only by the domestic shipping fleet and the domestic passengers and crew of Philippines' ships plying in our seas but we are also an international route for international shipping to which we should be ready to respond.”

This seminar is also an avenue for training Coast Guard Districts and personnel in creating their respective Maritime Search and Rescue Sub-Centers (MRSC) and eventually the crafting of their respective Sub-Region Maritime Search and Rescue Plan designed to provide a structured, efficient, and effective approach to search and rescue operations in the event of disasters or emergencies.

The plan will outline a comprehensive strategy for coordinating search and rescue efforts, ensuring that all actions are aligned with best practices and emergency management protocols.

This undertaking also aims to clearly define the roles of all involved parties, including first responders, volunteers, support personnel, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth and coordinated operations.

It was also highlighted that detailed guidelines on the deployment and use of resources, including personnel, equipment, and technology, should be provided to maximize efficiency and effectiveness during rescue missions.

The National Search and Rescue Seminar/Workshop is a significant milestone for the Philippine Coast Guard as this targets to establish a clear and actionable plan, taking proactive steps to saving lives.
