ππππππππ ππππππ: The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), in coordination with provincial and municipal responders, successfully conducted a medical evacuation for Ms. Naoko Sakagawa, a Japanese national, suffering from severe ear pain due to recent diving activities.
The evacuation was prompted by a request for assistance from the owner of Pandan Island Resort, Sablayan, Occidental Mindoro.
At approximately 7:30 AM, Coast Guard Sub-Station (CGSS) Sablayan received the call and immediately convened with the Incident Management Team (IMT)-Sablayan. A tactical meeting was held between the PCG, the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), and the Municipal Health Office (MHO) to formulate an immediate response plan.
The joint medivac team, including the Disaster Response Group (DRG) of CGSS Sablayan, Special Operations Unit-Occidental Mindoro, and PDRRMO, set out on the PDRRMOβs Sea Responder vessel from Sablayan Port was launched. Meanwhile, personnel from the MHO and MDRRMO stood by at Sablayan Port with an ambulance ready for initial medical support.
Upon arrival at said resort, the team efficiently evacuated Ms. Sakagawa, along with Mr. Milton Kuriyama, also a Japanese national, to Sablayan Port. There, the MHO team provided an initial medical assessment to ensure stability for further transportation.
After the evaluation, Ms. Sakagawa and Mr. Kuriyama were transported to San Jose, Occidental Mindoro, to consult an Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) specialist for a comprehensive medical assessment.
The PCG in Sablayan personnel remained on standby at the MDRRMO-Sablayan Emergency Operations Center (EOC) to monitor developments and assist in any further response efforts.
