The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has rescued one fisherman of a capsized motorbanca in the vicinity waters off Subic, Zambales, yesterday, 29 December 2024.
While en route to Bajo de Masinloc, BRP Suluan (MRRV-4406) conducted search and rescue (SAR) operations after receiving a call from the Coast Guard Station (CGS) Zambales regarding the three missing Filipino fishermen of a small fishing banca (Jiong) that capsized due to a broken outrigger.
At around 10:29 AM, BRP Suluan (MRRV-4406) received a call from MV Sao Heaven that monitored a capsized fishing banca in the vicinity waters off Subic.
BRP Suluan (MRRV-4406) proceeded to the reported location and successfully rescued one of the three missing Filipino fishermen. The rescued individual was identified as 54-year-old Mr Lindo Sumalilo, a resident of Barangay Calapandayan, Subic, Zambales.
According to Mr. Sumalilo, they departed Subic heading to Cabra Island for a fishing venture when the accident occurred.
He was accompanied by two other Filipino fishermen, 54-year-old Mr. Alimoot and 40-year-old Mr. Tabios, who remain missing as of press time.
After ensuring that the rescued individual was in good physical condition, BRP Suluan (MRRV-4406) towed the capsized fishing banca to Subic.
The PCG continues its SAR efforts and coordinates with transiting vessels for possible sightings of the two missing Filipino fishermen.
