Coast Guard Station (CGS) Coron personnel confiscated eight boxes containing live ammunitions with assorted clothes in Coron Pier, Palawan on 09 December 2013.
Reports received from a certain John Julius B Antenor, collection representative of Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) said that a stevedore of Prudential Customs Brokerage Services Inc (PCBSI) discovered the boxes containing the ammunitions with assorted clothes and immediately reported to Philippine Coast Guard and PPA officials.
Joint team composed of CGS Coron personnel headed by its Station Commander, Lieutenant Junior Grade Mark Theodore P Valencia PCG, together with Special Operations Unit (SOU), PCG K9, PPA Coron and PCBSI inspectors found out that the boxes were unloaded from MV Asuncion XI with Manila as its last port of call.
A total of 4,185 live ammunitions of caliber 40 were found concealed in eight boxes.
As indicated to its bill of lading, said cargo is consigned to a certain Mr Judson Pe of Barangay Tagumpay, Coron, Palawan and were not properly declared, thus lack pertinent supporting documents.
The items were properly turned-over by CGS Coron personnel to local PNP for safe keeping and proper disposition.
According to Republic Act No. 8294, unlawful disposition or possession of firearms ammunition has a penalty of imprisonment of six months and one day to six years and a fine of Php 30,000.00 shall be imposed upon any person who shall unlawfully manufacture, deal in, acquire, dispose or possess any firearm classified as high-powered firearm which includes those with bores bigger in diameter that of .38 caliber and 9 millimeter such as caliber 40.
