The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) professionalizes its medical workforce through the convening of the pioneering batch of the Coast Guard Healthcare Technician Specialization Course (CGHTSC) at the Coast Guard Base Taguig today, 03 July 2025.

The Coast Guard Nursing Service (CGNS) led by the Chief Nurse, Commodore Lysamyra Marie Gavan NC PCG, presided over the ceremony with 31 students composing the CGHTSC Class 01-2025.

According to the CGNS, this initiative was pursued in reference to the directive of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of Coast Guard Nursing Service personnel.

In her message, Commodore Gavan emphasized the importance of thorough preparation and consistent growth in their career in public service.

The CGHTSC is a four-month course designed to enhance the clinical competencies of CGNS personnel assigned to health facilities.

β€œIt blends theoretical knowledge with hands-on training in non-invasive assessment and basic interventions vital to field and clinical care,” the CGNS added.

β€œThis course will prepare the students to serve as Coast Guard Healthcare Technicians, supporting medical operations in both routine and high-demand situations, as part of the PCG’s mission to professionalize its medical workforce and enhance healthcare delivery across its operations,” it furthered.
