LOOK: The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) hosted an Exit and Introductory to mark the official turnover of the Australian Border Force (ABF) First Secretary assigned at the Embassy of Australia in the Philippines held at National Headquarters, Port Area, Manila on July 16, 2025.
The said engagement is part of a broader effort to deepen the strategic partnership and to foster closer ties between the Philippines and Australia, reflecting the shared values and common aspirations of both nations. This initiative also aligns with the vision of President Ferdinand R Marcos Jr.
Inspector Brent Tonna, outgoing First Secretary, formally conveyed the conclusion of his tour of duty and introduced his successor, Inspector Joeline Kay Arentz, who will now assume the post. In his remarks, Inspector Tonna expressed his appreciation for the close cooperation extended by the PCG throughout his tenure in the Philippines.
Deputy Commandant for Operations, Vice Admiral Edgar Ybañez PCG presided over the meeting and recognized Inspector Tonna’s valuable contributions in advancing key areas of PCG-ABF cooperation. To honor his service, VADM Ybañez PCG conferred upon Inspector Tonna the Coast Guard Merit Medal and Ribbon.
The meeting served as an opportunity to reaffirm the robust and growing partnership between the PCG and the Australian Government. Both sides discussed ongoing and future collaborative efforts in maritime security, law enforcement, capacity-building, and maritime domain awareness. Emphasis was also placed on support for the PCG’s modernization program, particularly in enhancing operational capabilities through technical cooperation and training, as well as assistance in the repair and sustainment of Australian-made vessels currently in PCG service.
The activity was attended by representatives from the Australian Border Force and the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), including DFAT Maritime Second Secretary, Mr. Alex Sodomaco; and other PCG Senior Officers.
