The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) is actively conducting shoreline monitoring and assessment operations through its Marine Environmental Protection Enforcement Response Team in Nasugbu and Coast Guard Sub-Station Lian following the sinking of a fishing vessel off the coast of Lian, Batangas around 2AM today, 23 July 2025.

At 3AM this morning, Coast Guard Station Batangas received an information from BRP Dagupan, a Philippine Navy vessel regarding a distress call from a fishing vessel identified as FV “Unity World”. Initial reports indicate that the vessel completely submerged at approximately 3:00 AM today, 23 July 2025, around 2.25 nautical miles off Sitio Talim, Barangay Luyahan, in the waters of Lian, Batangas. The vessel was reportedly carrying approximately 40,000 liters of Automotive Diesel Oil (ADO) when it sank.

According to the crew, FV Unity World departed Navotas Fish Port Pier 1 en route to Cuyo, Palawan to pick up assorted fish. The vessel encountered rough sea conditions near Fortune Island, prompting the vessel's master to declare abandon ship at around 2:00 AM. The 11 crew members managed to reach the shoreline safely using floating devices.

All crew members were accounted for and are in good condition following a health check conducted by the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO).

By 3:53 AM, CGSS Lian proceeded to Matabungkay shoreline but could not launch water assets due to rough seas. The team continues its monitoring, conduct information dissemination, and efforts to access the area.

The PCG is closely coordinating with local government units and concerned agencies to ensure appropriate response and mitigation measures are in place.
