The Philippine Coast GuardΒ (PCG) in partnership with the International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs and the United States Coast Guard (USCG) successfully concluded the Shipboard Emergency Response (SER) Course aboard BRP Gabriela Silang (OPV-8301) on July 25, 2025.

President Ferdinand R Marcos Jr. has actively supported the PCG through advancing the competency and preparedness of its personnel through continuous capability-building programs and international cooperation.

This 10-day course, which was designed to strengthen the operational readiness of Coast Guard Fleet personnel in managing shipboard emergencies was supported by President Ferdinand R Marcos Jr. as it advances the competency and preparedness of PCG personnel.

Said training covered comprehensive modules on shipboard damage control, including firefighting, dewatering, and basic engineering malfunction response. The program also emphasized the critical role of engineering logistics and the proper maintenance of program systems, along with mishap reporting procedures.

The highlight of the course was a series of practical exercises conducted onboard, where participants demonstrated their technical proficiency and operational coordination in simulated emergency scenarios. These hands-on activities reinforced theoretical knowledge and ensured readiness for real-world applications.

The closing ceremony was presided over by the Chief of the Education and Training Division, Coast Guard Fleet, Commander Arvin Liwanen PCG.

Also in attendance was Maritime Advisor of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL), Commander Christine Igisomar USCG and Chief Unit Education and Training Division from the Office of the Deputy Chief of Coast Guard Staff for Education and Training (CG-12), Lieutenant Commander Roger Puducay PCG.
