The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has intensified its disaster response operations to affected individuals of Taal volcano phreatic eruption since yesterday, 12 January 2020.

Commodore Leovigildo G Panopio, Commander, Coast Guard District Southern Tagalog, said that, PCG Station in Talisay has successfully transported residents of several barangays in San Nicolas, Talisay, Nasugbu, and Lemery in Batangas going to their respective evacuation centers. Approximately 300 families has also been transferred from the evacuation center in Talisay going to a larger and safer evacuation center in Santo Tomas, Batangas on midnight of 13 January 2020.

N95 masks are currently being distributed to the evacuees, especially to children, senior citizens, and pregnant mothers.

Moreover, PCG District in Southern Tagalog has deployed medical teams to provide assistance to evacuaees who are experiencing difficulties in breathing and other health-related issues caused by inhaled ashfall.

PCG Task Force Taal headed by Commodore Art Abu has been activated to implement further disaster response measures, in coordination with the Provincial Disaster Risk Response and Management Office (PDRRMO) in Batangas.

PCG assures affected individuals that more assistance are underway to ensure their safety and well-being amid ongoing calamity in South Luzon.
