Acting on request by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Environmental Crime Division for Inter Agency Support through the National Coast Watch Central RCC Central on 26 February 2019, the composite team of Coast Guard District Central Visayas , NBI, Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) conducted an inter-agency collaborative operation led by the NBI to serve a search warrant to owners/operators of a piggery farm located at Barangay Mantalisay, San Fernando, Cebu that dispose untreated animal waste directly to the sea through more or less 400 meters sewerage PVC pipe.

A total of 106 interagency personnel issued two search warrants in violation to RA 8550 (Fishery Code of the Philippines) and RA 9275 (Philippine Clean Water Act of 2004). Further, four persons were arrested including the owner of the said establishment and were brought to NBI Cebu for filing of legal charges.Β 

Marine Environmental Protection Unit Central Visayas in coordination with Coast Guard Station Cebu will likewise file appropriate charges for violation of PD 979 through regular filing as being prepared by the legal officer this District.

The operation of the farm was immediately stopped and the arresting officers confiscated the pipes and are now in the custody of DPWH.
