PCG: Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Commandant Admiral Elson E Hermogino led the kick-off ceremony of the PCG Commandant’s Cup Summer Sports Festival 2019 held at the PCG Gymnasium, Coast Guard Base Farola, Binondo, Manila yesterday, April 24.

During the ceremony, Adm Hermogino has awarded a certificate of recognition to Mr. Thelmo Cunanan Jr., President and Chief Executive Officer of Philippine National Bobsled, Luge, and Skeleton Association (PNBLSA), Incorporated for his invaluable support to the Command and the recruitment of PCG elite athletes that made history in bobsledding. He also lauded the very first Philippine Bobsled Team composed of SN1 Joseph Acosta PCG, SN1 Boyong Dela Cruz PCG, SN1 Sid Isidro PCG, and SN2 Jerby Deriada PCG of which the latter two recently bagged 3rd place in the Alberta Cup Championship in Canada. Said team would return to Calgary in October for a number of races to compete for them to be able to qualify for the 2022 Winter Olympics.

Another part of the ceremony was the official launching of the PCG song entitled, “Handog ng Tanod Baybayin”, an original composition written by Lieutenant Commander Jonathan S Serote PCG, Acting Commander of Coast Guard Special Service Office (CGSSO) and was performed by the CGETC Combo and NOBETC Band.

The highlight of the activity was the competition of muses between the four teams (Orange Team, Blue Team, White Team and Red Team) wherein the representative of the blue team, Apprentice Seawoman Khair Jean J Tafalla from Coast Guard Education and Training Command won the title as Miss Commandants Cup 2019.

The event was delighted with modern dance competition. The Red Team, composed of PCG personnel from Coast Guard Surface Support Force, Coast Guard Special Operations Force and Coast Guard Aviation force won the first place.

The said command activity which will run until May 6, aims to strengthen the camaraderie among personnel from various coast guard units as well as to promote fitness thru sports games such as basketball, volleyball and badminton among many others.
