PCG: A cargo vessel was partially submerged in the shipside at berthing space of Banago Port, Brgy Banago, Bacolod City, Negros Occidental last May 5.
Mr. Cesario Abetong, security personnel of Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) Banago sought assistance from the Coast Guard after cargo vessel M/J Nurshena partially submerged on the water.
The said cargo vessel was loaded with more or less 20,000 board feet of sawn lumber.
CGS Negros Occidental made coordination with the port manager to unload the lumber to lessen possible damage to the vessel.
CGS Negros Occidental together with PPA personnel and crew of the said vessel unloaded the cargoes.
According to the owner of the vessel, Mr. Hadji Jurupar Sabtula that prior their departure from Maluso, Basilan to Bacolod City, he noticed that water was leaking in the engine room, the crew tried to pump out the water using their emergency pump but the water continued to leak inside the engine room.
CGS Negros Occidental continued to monitor the said vessel for any occurrence of oil spill.
