Vehicles-carrier “MV Diamond Highway” bound for Batangas caught fire near Reed bank last 15 June.

Coast Guard Headquarters received a distress alert from Maritime Rescue Coordination Center Hongkong that there is a distressed vessel at vicinity waters west of Nalaut Island, Northern Palawan.

BRP Cabra (MRRV-4409) within the AOR of Coast Guard District Palawan proceeded in the location to render necessary assistance.

Meanwhile, Coast Guard was informed that the 25 crew of said vessel abandoned ship and were rescued by Bulk carrier “Canopus Leader” enroute to Thailand. 

BRP Cabra upon arrival at the area has started fire fighting.

As of press time, BRP Cabra (MRRV 4409) is still lying next to the distressed vessel for further monitoring of its status.

Investigation is on-going as to the cause of the fire and PCG is establishing contact with “Canopus Leader” for the identification of the crew.
