HONOLULU, Hawaii (07 July 2019)- 108 students successfully graduated from counter-terrorism course focused on leader development at Daniel K Inouye Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies (DKI-APCSS) in Honolulu, Hawaii last 03 July.

Students representing from 40 countries are composed of members of the military or civilian equivalents serving in defense, foreign affairs, or counterterrorism positions.

One of which is Lieutenant Commander (LCDR) Erwin Tolentino who recently completed the Comprehensive Security Responses to Terrorism (CSRT) Course from 06 June to 03 July 2019. LCDR Tolentino is the fifth CSRT alumni of DKI-APCSS from the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG). At present, the PCG has a total of 23 alumni of various APCSS offered courses including its current Commandant, Admiral Elson E Hermogino.

The course funded by the Joint US Military Assistance Group-Philippines is a four-week program offered by the College of Security Studies which provides advanced professional education to counterterrorism practitioners with greater understanding of the subject in order to reduce the scope and capability of terrorism threats.

CSRT builds a network of security professionals dedicated to combating terrorism by helping the Philippines and other partner countries to successfully collaborate and cooperate in a united struggle against terrorism. The course emphasizes on terrorism as a multi-faceted issue that requires multi-disciplinary solutions beyond state-centric policies.

In acknowledging that there is more to terrorism than recruitment strategies, tactics, techniques, doctrines and practices, the program focuses on fostering a more self-reflective, critical approach to the study of terrorism by examining the effects of terrorism on human rights, law, policing, immigration, media, culture, gender, identity, psychology, community relations, science, technology, and other aspects of life.

The Center addresses regional and global security issues, inviting military and civilian representatives of the United States and Asia-Pacific nations to its comprehensive program of executive education and conferences.
