CEBU, Philippines. (08 July 2019) – The Philippine Coast Guard rendered assistance to the rescued individuals after their motorbanca “Thresher Shark Cove” encountered whirlwind and capsized at vicinity waters off Bogo City, Cebu yesterday, 08 July 2019.
A personnel of CSB Dive Shop reported the incident to Coast Guard Sub-Station Remigio and the latter immediately organized a search and rescue but they were informed that a passing motorbanca already rescued the 20 individuals composed of 17 divers and 3 boat crew back to Malapascua Island. The team then waited for the arrival of the rescued victims together with the other local government units in Malapascua Island to render necessary assistance.
Initial investigation revealed that the motorbanca “Thresher Shark Cove” departed Malapascua Island at around 09:30 am this morning to Capitancillo Islet, after one hour of sailing they encountered whirlwind which caused their motorbanca to capsize.
As of press time, the 20 individuals are all safe and in good physical condition.
