CEBU CITY, Philippines. (10 July 2019)- Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) and Philippine Coast Guard personnel responded to a fire incident onboard MV Trans Asia 1 which caught fire while docked and under repair at FF Cruz Wharf, Pier 8, Mandaue City, Cebu around 4AM yesterday, July 10.
BRP Suluan (Multi Role Response Vessel-4406) together with Search Operation Unit-Central Visayas, Marine Environmental Protection Unit (MEPU)- Central Cebu and Coast Guard Sub-Station Mandaue personnel proceeded in the area for the assessment and inspection of possible oil spill and to render firefighting.
At around 7PM, BFP declared fire out.
MEPU-CV also declared that there is no sign of oil spill.
According to the Operations Officer of MV Trans Asia 1, the fire started at the galley air blower, however other cause of the incident is still under investigation.
One of the 36 crew got a minor injury and was brought to University of Cebu Medical Center.
PCG advised the captain to file marine protest regarding the incident happened.
