CEBU, Philippines (03 August 2019) A foreign cargo vessel MV “Arikun” carrying a Panamanian Flag ran aground at vicinity waters of Lauis Ledge Lighthouse,Talisay, Cebu this morning, August 03.

Accordingly, the Traffic Monitoring System informed the Coast Guard Station Cebu regarding the incident. 

The incident transpired while said vessel is entering the Traffic Separation Scheme, South Cebu-Mactan.

The ill-fated vessel was onboard with 18 crew (13 Chinese, 3 Vietnamese and 2 Myanmar nationals).

MV “Arikun” is bound to Cebu International Port with 287,167 liters of fuel onboard.

As of press time, the PCG is still investigating the cause of the incident.

Meanwhile, Marine Environmental Protection Unit- Central Visayas conducted an assessment which yielded to a negative result of oil spill.
