ZAMBOANGA CITY – The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) led by Commandant Vice Admiral Joel S Garcia has inaugurated its first ever 2.9-hectare housing project for its personnel inside Saint Michael Subdivision, Barangay Sinubung, Zamboanga City on 28 November 2019.

The PCG housing project, which is expected to produce 189 house and lot units with 100-square meter and two-storey building plan each, aims to provide PCG personnel and their dependents with secure and comfortable homes through decent and affordable housing.

During the inauguration, PCG Commandant Vice Admiral Joel S Garcia recognized the contribution of the National Housing Authority (NHA) through Engineer Al-Khawarizmi U Indanan for providing PHP 18 million site development funds; the Armed Forces and Police Mutual Benefit Association Incorporated (AFPMBAI) through Brigadier General Cesar M Idio (Ret) for the comprehensive insurance for real estate and financing services; and Panglima Hawani Realty Developer through Engineer Radzmier Gumbahali for providing the project site.

Commodore Joseph M Coyme, outgoing Commander of the PCG District in Southwestern Mindanao, was the prime mover of the housing project through the idea that was conceptualized by Vice Admiral Garcia in 2013 or six years before his appointment as the PCG Commandant.

Vice Admiral Garcia believes that the PCG housing project will build a community where every family of the PCG workforce will have a secured and comfortable life.
