The Department of Social Welfare and Development awarded the Philippine Coast Guard its prestigious "Panata Award" in recognition of its valuable contribution in the disaster relief operations effort of the government in Marawi City. The PCG through its Civil Relations Service, conducted four sorties of relief, psycho social and medical and dental mission in the evacuation areas of Iligan and Marawi City. The PCG also sent alternately BRP Corregidor and BRP Pampanga to transport food packs from DSWD and school supplies from Manila to Iligan Port.
Captain Armando Balilo, Acting Commander of CRS, thanked in behalf of the Command, the DSWD leadership for the accolade. He also expressed PCG's gratitude to the Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary, PCGA Medical and K9 Support Squadron, Fast Craft CEO Chet Pestrana, International Ferris Association and media partners who supported the PCG in the activity.
The award was given by DSWD OIC Secretary Emmanuel Leyco and Presidential Liaison Undersecretary Luzviminda Ilagan during the agency's anniversary held recently.
Meanwhile, BRP Corregidor arrived yesterday, March 15, 2018 in Iligan Port with 3,000 food packs and school supplies intended for the elementary and high school students of Marawi.
