PCG: The Monitoring Control and Surveillance (MCS) 3004 manned by Philippine Coast Guard, Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) Region Five together with Local Government Unit conducted operations against Danish Seine (Hulbot-hulbot, Buli-buli) fishing methods at the vicinity waters three nautical miles Northeast from Badi Pt., Ragay Gulf Last Wednesday, 09 May.

While conducting maritime patrols, the MCS 3004 sighted the two hulbot-hulbot vessels casting their nets and ready to commence its illegal fishing operations in the area.

This method of fishing is banned due to its destructive effect to the corals reefs, sea grass beds, and other fishery marine life habitat netting fishes in all size and species at the tail end of its net.

Immediately, MCS 3004 apprehended the unregistered fishing vessels and conducted hot pursuit operation since the vessels tried to flee from the area by cutting their nets, scare lines and other equipment.

The fishing vessels were deliberately left half-submerge in the sea and jettisoned by the crew to escape apprehension. Meanwhile, all jettisoned fishing paraphernalia were retrieved by the team for evidence purposes.

Likewise, the two fishing vessels were towed to Pasacao Port for detention and filling of proper charges.
