Two (2) persons onboard distressed “Motor Banca Juvelyn 2” were successfully rescued by the joint Search and Rescue (SAR) Team from the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), PCG Auxiliary and Philippine Navy (PN) at vicinity 600 meters off Sitio Ilig-Iligan Barangay Yapak, Boracay Island, Malay, Aklan at around 7:45 Pm yesterday, May 11.
Initial investigation revealed that personnel from the Joint Task Force Boracay Operation Center called up Coast Guard Sub-Station (CGSS) Boracay on the said date informing that there was a motor banca which went dead on water at the said vicinity with (2) persons onboard seeking for help. The victims were able to contact the PCG Auxiliary who later coordinated with the PCG for possible search and rescue operations.
Immediately upon receipt, said joint SAR team proceeded to the incident area and successfully rescued Mr Antonio Aboque, 49 years old from San Jose Romblon, skipper and Mr Felipe Peralta, 64 years old from Iloilo City respectively.
Final investigation disclosed that said rescued persons were crossing San Jose Romblon bound to Caticlan, Malay Aklan when their motor banca was hit by an unknown floating object deforming her propeller shafting that caused her engine to conk out and be dead on water.
The rescued persons were then brought to CGSS Boracay Office while their motor banca was towed to Cagban Jetty Port for proper disposition.
