PCG: PCG rendered assistance to six Filipino fishermen who were successfully rescued by a passing foreign vessel, KSL Seoul along Mindoro strait where they were sighted along with their capsized wooden fishing boat identified as Sister Reds with aqua blue hull yesterday, June 09.

Reports revealed that the distressed fishing boat Sister Reds was accidentally hit by an unnamed bulk carrier vessel due to restricted visibility brought about by heavy rain in the area. Meanwhile, MV KSL SEOUL skippered by Captain Oliver Wendell D Capuli, while transiting the said area, sighted the distressed fishermen and eventually rescued them.

The six rescued Filipino fishermen were identified as follows:

1. Rodrigo Lungay, 56 yrs old;

2. Gerry Guzman, 49 yrs old;

3. Efepanio Balete, 35 yrs old;

4. Arturo Egang, 56 yrs old;

5. Dunio Delgado, 38 yrs old and;

6. Mario Lungay, 53 yrs old.

After coordination with the PCG, BRP Cape San Agustin (MRRV 4408) was immediately dispatched by the Coast Guard Action Center Manila enroute to vicinity 12 nautical miles off Bayacas, Lubang Island along Mindoro Strait. Upon arrival thereat, all rescued fishermen were turned over by the crew of MV KSL SEOUL to MRRV 4408. PCG Medical team onboard MRRV 4408 gave necessary medical attention to the rescued fishermen while underway back to the National Headquarters in Manila for proper disposition.
